Advice required on selecting right piston for D15Z4
My block is at the machine shop and the guy said that it needs to be bored to .50 .... It had a stock standard size P2C pistons on it ...
I don't have any clue which other D series piston will be suitable in replacement, Considering head face and block face will be 1mm down each.
P2C specs are as below
Total Height(mm) Compression Height (mm) Dish / Dome(mm) Volume CC P2C ~48.75 ~27.5 Dish ~ -7.7 cc
As the engine volume is D15 = 1493cc if i use D16 piston i am a bit confused about the deck clearance and the valve orientation if it will go in the valve grove at the piston top.
Re: Advice required on selecting right piston for D15Z4
Tell me something is this normal for D15 blocks a little grove neck just before the top end on each cylinder ? i marked it to show its between 2 red lines
Re: Advice required on selecting right piston for D15Z4
If it needs to be bored 0.5mm over, you need to buy 75.5mm pistons.
You're milling 0.040 inch (1mm) from both the head and the block? Why? That's a lot. I'm not an expert, but you may want to degree the cam to make sure your P2V clearance is acceptable. You may need to run a thick head gasket.
Can you catch your fingernail on that groove in the cylinders? If not, it may just be where the top ring stops at TDC. There shouldn't be any grooves, to my knowledge.
Re: Advice required on selecting right piston for D15Z4
It's my understanding that lip is common. The ring wears the cylinder and doesn't reach the very top so that little area doesn't wear. There is a tool to cut that lip out of used motors so to get the pistons out without breaking rings.
If the block and head are flat, I do not know why you are milling them.

I will be going back to the machine shop tomorrow to find out exactly what and how the work will go forward .... also i will share the exact dimensions as found
