Defroster not working 1997 Accord
Very little air comes out of the windshield defroster and none at all out of the fixed side window vents. All of the other modes work as they should. The mode motor in the drivers footwell works on all the modes including the defrost. Any thoughts would be appreciated. The car only has 60,000 miles and no other issues. Thanks
Followup on my previous post.I removed the fan because it was accesible hoping to see the flaps. Couldn't see them but I did clean out a lot of acorns. After that was put that back together I cleaned the old lube off the mode linkage in the drivers footwell and applied Superlube to it. After cycling the controls a few times something freed up because now the defrosters are working again.
This car was parked under an oak tree for 20 years so that was the source. The slotted plastic panel under the wipers is intact. I was not aware there is a screen. This weekend I'll look more closely and see if there's one there.
Oh. Maybe squirrels or chipmunks carried them in. Rodents can always find or chew their way into the innards of a car and make a home there.
Actual mileage is now 68000.The car was my mother in laws. She purchased it new in 97 when someone t-boned her 1989 Accord and totaled it. She really loved the 89 as she felt it was the sportier of the 2. Anyhow she literally was that little old lady who just drove to the supermarket, doctor and church, all of which were within 2 miles of her home.I purchased the car from the estate with about 58000 3years ago when she passed. The car needs paint as the clear coat is gone on some surfaces, interior is like new and mechanicaly it's very good. I get a shudder from the drivetain when accelerating but I think the motormounts may have deteriorated from age and lack of use. I' ll check it out when the weather warms up.That's my story. What sort of Honda do you drive?

There are some Hondas out there with that kind of story. Not many, but some. Right now, I know where a very pristine '89 CRX Si is, but the family won't let it go. So, it sits.
Not sure what happens to motor mounts that don't get a workout for many years, but I do know tires that sit with the 2000 pounds on the same spot can get flat spots and cause sever vibration upon acceleration as the rubber searches for grip on the pavement. If you haven't done so, get the wheels balanced and the lugs re-torqued. If wheels can no longer be balanced, you should get new tires.

I had new tires put on when I purchased car as the one's on it had dry rot and cracking issues. Thanks for the heads up on that though. Too bad about the CRX; a car like that that should be taken care of and driven. Keep after them. If no one has plans for it eventually they may let it go.
