Icon7 91 CIvic hatch swap

Hello, im new to the Honda game. I know very little. Im needing some help and thoughts on the best rout to go with my 91 civic hatch with the d15 and a 4 speed tranny. Im not looking for outrageous hp or tq just way more get up and go then it has now. Maybe boost it. Im stumped at what to do. Id like something fairly easy considering i know absolutely nothing about Hondas. Whats the best route to go? I dont wanna sink more than 2000 in it, maybe more. I truly hate to bother yall im just needing guidance into the life of Hondas. What swap would be best? What exactly will I have to do?

the fact that its a honda means very little
im sure the question your trying to ask is how do i make a car faster

theres 5 ways in this world we live in
here they are in no real order

1 bigger motor
2 better handling
3 forced air (turbo) (Supercharger)
4 is 1-2 and 3 put together so a bigger motor plus boosted plus better suspention
5 driver techniques

the best one
the one that makes you better is number 5

your first limitation is the transmission. a manual conversion is going to be your gateway to enjoyable performance. it's not terribly difficult considering a swap is being done anyway.

to stay comfortably in budget a freshened up D16Z6/Y8 offers a pretty good value. these are pretty easy to find, easy to work on, easy to upgrade later if you decide you want more. compared to your current D15 (B2 i assume?) and auto, a Z6/Y8 with the matching EX equipped 5spd transmission, it will feel like twice the power (but it's really about 30% more). compared to the frequently recommended B-series swaps, this option trades peak power numbers for availability and price advantage.

this will require some wiring/conversion harness so leave room for that in the budget.

an alternative that I have less first hand experience with, but I know would provide more punch with little more cost is a full F22B1 (VTEC) swap from a 94-97 Accord. do some searching to see if you can find details for dropping one into a 91 civic. it's a bigger engine physically, but there should be mount kits available to get it to bolt in. double the torque output of your current engine and nearly as much power as a stock B16. the weight penalty isn't too bad especially if you remove the balance shafts (10 lbs) eliminate power steering pump and bracket and use a conversion mount for the alternator. you may need an EG/EK style half radiator for this to all fit.

Your best bet.. just do some research.. dig around on the forums... decide for yourself the best route instead of asking other people what is best for you.. not trying to be a dick but you're asking a pretty generic question... like you said you are a novice with hondas, so go educate yourself and you'll answer most of your own questions.. best of luck

Just because you say "not trying to be a dick" doesnt mean your not. I know what I want Im going b20 just asking some of the more experienced people what would be easiest being the ef is running obd0.

He's not being a dick. You've been considerate enough to admit that you don't know much about these cars, so nobody wants to tell you to go do x, y, or z, when you in your infinite lack of understanding might attempt those things, not know what you're doing, and then blame the adviser for your inability to execute. Of course no one is sure that you're going to do that, but it's how these threads usually go. That or the OP ends up arguing that he's being given bad advice and shitposts for a week.

Cliffs: if you can't be arsed to investigate basic stuff and ask more detailed questions, then why should anyone expect you to be arsed to do a swap?

Just to be nice, here I'll spoon feed you -

Simplest and 'easiest' motor swap that will give you a nice bump in the peppiness would be a d16z6

This will require you to convert to mult-point fuel injection from your dual point as well as wire in vtec and get a p28 ecu

Along with that you will want to convert from auto to manual which will require the pedal assembly and installation of a clutch cable

None of this is simple and should not be tackled by a novice unless you can afford for this car to just be torn apart and down for a while as you learn (and inevitably mess up)

There are plenty of step by step write ups on how to do these modifications that can be found on this forum as well as a number of others

FYI B-swap into a automatic d series EF isn't as simple as you might be thinking

Good luck
