Default Rebuilding the D17 Block questions

I have to rebuild a d17 block and I am looking at fixing the root cause of the spun bearing issue. I am not looking to make monster power or upgrade it I just want to get some durability out of it. what am I looking at replacing? I have read on a few forums I can use D16 parts also in some cases. Any feedback is appreciated.

Hey Mark,
I actually recently had a D17 rebuilt for me as i didn have tools or a shop to do the work.
The engine I have now is all stock, according to the invoice i received here is the parts list.
piston and ring set
rod bearings
main bearings
lower end gasket set
top end gasket set
oil and oil filter
all together parts ended up costing $402, i have oversized stock pistons in it as well(doesn't really change performance)
the main thing that will cost the most money is the machine work. I would recommend having engine block bored and honed as well as resurface engine block and head. They also micropolished the crankshaft(not sure if this is needed) Machine work will cost the most money but talk with your local machine shops some places can be pretty reasonable.
Wish you best of luck
