I have a d15b7 block with a d16y7 head and I can’t get the timing right I bought a d16y7 timing belt would that be my problem? Should I get a d15b7 belt instead

I've not done that swap yet, but I can tell you that a d16y7 (like in a 2000 civic) has 104 teeth while a d15b7 has 106. What is your issue exactly?

The issue lies in the D16Y7 head. It's designed for a taller deck so Honda has the cam key 1/2 tooth off compared to the OBD1 heads (D15B7, D16Z6).

You need an adjustable cam gear or to change the cam gear to the D15B7 if I recall. Look up the Y8/B7 minime. It's well documented and they talk about using the opposite cam gear to get the 1/2 tooth variance corrected.

If you are keeping the original B7 tensioner and water pump, you probably will need the 106 tooth B7 belt.
