Default Manual Transmission Oil

I want to change my tranny oil. God knows how long it's been in there. I see in the older manuals 10w30 or 40 is called for and the newer manuals Honda MTF.

From my 2 stroke dirtbike racing days, I've had good luck running Bel Ray Gear Saver in my trannys. Formulated for a constant mesh transmission.

What are you guys running in your transmissions?

Just use Acura or Honda brand MTF or go cheap and use engine oil, the manuals actually say what weight engine oil is a compatible replacement if the dealer MTF is not available, I cant remember what oil was recommend on my SOHC but I ended up using engine oil and it works fine.

GM Synchromesh is now called ACDelco Synchromesh. If you're going to use it (I do in my TL), make sure you buy the "Friction Modified" flavor, the standard Synchromesh doesn't like Honda transmissions.

No, use Honda MTF. Don't cheap out on your transmission fluid. Engine oil is for when you are stuck in the forest.

ACDelco Synchromesh is not cheaping out on your transmission; it is far superior to Honda MTF which is why so many folks, especially in the 6MT world, rely on the stuff.
