Default Boosteddb8's EG Sedan Turbo drag Build thread

It has been a long time since I last posted, long time Honda-Tech member. My previous project was a daily driving turbo Integra DB8 many years ago.

Since then I had worked on building a EG sedan, nicked named "Betty", for street/drag use.

A bit about the project:

Big thanks goes out to the brothers at Kens Race Engines in Walnut, California for building a solid long block.

Big thanks also to TurboJoe Tuning in Van Nuys, California on the excellent tune.

We maxed out the fuel setup at 672whp 458 lbft then turned it down to a safe tune for the fuel setup at 655 whp 432 lbft.

Next up all safety equipment including full cage, window net Kirkey seat, harness and a removable parachute mount

Goals for 2020:

Bigger fuel pump and injectors

Turn up the power

Run and back up 9.99 or quicker 1/4 mile then drive her home

Damn.. I get all excited when I see "EG" and especially "Sedan".. Then the hood pops and I see the B-series under the hood.. Total heartbreak.. That being said..

Nice ride! Very well put together. Looking forward to seeing what you do now!

Very nice! How did you get over 600whp on 1000cc injectors?

LOL Thanks man. Hard not to build a B-Series. Very proven power plant, cost effective and strong transmission.

Thanks man. VP C16 race gas, big fuel lines, Walbro 450hp pump and higher base fuel pressure. You can get away with a decent amount of power and safe duty cycle on ID1000 injectors. However once it got to 672whp we where above 90% and had to back out some power.

Next year, after I have some fun on this low boost setup, I’ll throw in some 2000cc and an external pump to turn it up.

Should then easily do 800+whp with good streetablity to cruise back and forth from the track.

Chromoly roll cage, parachute mount, catch pan, and tow hooks complete complete, just waiting on windshield and final dash items to go back in.

Great work by Beto at B-Werks Custom Fab in Rancho Cucamonga.

Looking forward to seeing NHRA and the tracks open up again!

Looking really good! Putting the roll cage in changes things, I went from running a few 10.60’s before the cage and then afterwards I struggled to get below a 10.70 until I really cranked up the power. The balance of the car was really off after the cage...... but I felt much safer. I’m finally getting the car balanced back out and now everything is shut down. My best 1/8 mile is still a 6.8 @ 116ph, but it was a 1.86 60ft lol. You are about the same power as myself, only time before you hit a 9 second 1/4 or 6.50 1/8th

Thanks man. Defiantly curious as to how the additional weight will impact the passes. Plan on seeing what I can cut or pull off to help compensate. Then of course turn up some power with bigger fuel setup and more boost. Shouldn’t be to far from going 9.99 or quicker. Need some seat time too.

‘seat time is the key, the more power I make it has become harder to make clean passes down the track. When I first got the car done I ran a 10.60 @ 133mph with a 6.9 1/8 @ 106mph at 16psi. After the roll cage was installed and now at close to 30psi my best has been a 10.30 @ 147mph and 6.8 1/8th @ 116mph. It’s harder to control the power required to make a 9 second pass...... I’ll get there lol

The roll cage adds more weight, sure. It also adds additional chassis stability. Would you say the redistributed weight and added chassis stability is changing suspension geometry enough to throw off those times?

So with a roll cage, fully adjustable suspension would be a must?

Removing weight were you can and corner balancing really comes to play when adding the weight of a cage as well.

Since tracks are not going to be open for a while. Upgraded some suspension and bigger/stickier tires.

MH 235/60/15
PCI upper control arm spherical bushing

Need to trim a bit tomorrow, then I can
take her for a spin.

Those tires look like a TIGHT fit.. I'd be cautious about running them in any sort of wet conditions too.
looking good!

Thanks! Defiantly a tight fit. Going to roll the fenders and possibly trim the bumper a bit before I take it for a spin. She’ll never see the road if it’s wet either. LOL

I wouldn't THINK about driving mine if the streets were even damp with the Toyo T1Rs, but the Nitto NT05s handle wet streets pretty well, as long as there isn't any standing water.

Awesome car man. Thats the best kind of car to pull up to a meet with if youre looking to make some money. 4 doors and big power is a street sweeper recipe 👌

thanks man. It definitely gets underestimated for being a 4dr. LOL

yeah completely! Think tire shake took them out when I went to the track. Shouldn’t be a problem now. Eventually I’ll do more spherical bearings on the suspension to stiffen things up.

Awesome setup, OP. On my next setup, it will either be a 4dr Civic or EG hatch. Nowadays, the major downside to a hatch is finding one that is stock and not clapped out. lol

Very cool 4dr. My dad & I also campaigned a 4-door EG here in South Africa (sold as a Honda Ballade here) before switching over to a EG Hatch (foreign import) and turning it into a full drag car.

Where does the S362 SX-E hit full boost ? Are you delaying boost onset purposefully for traction purposes or is it as laggy as the dyno graph makes it appear (Torque peak at 7700rpm) ?
