93 Civic Frankenstein Y8 head swap
I have a 93 Honda Civic that has a D16Y7 in it with the D16Z6 ecu still in it. The threads for the valve cover are stripped and I found a Y8 head for cheap.
I’ve been looking around and getting mixed results but that could be due to the fact that I have a weird case. I was wondering, what all would need to be changed?
i know the head gasket would need to come from the y8, it would need the y8 timing belt, possibly new wires? Will the distributor I have work on the y8? If there’s information I’m missing that you need please let me know and if there’s any suggestions on what I should do let me know.

You can still use the distributor that is on the Y7 on the Y8. Dunno but I would buy a helicoil kit for the size bolt of the valve cover and do that first and save myself all that trouble. Amazon has them for about 30 bbux
So I actually already bought the helicoil kit and drilled out the head and all that but ended up breaking off one of the bolts in the head. Apparently the bolts I had weren’t very strong
D16Z6 P28 vtec ecu running on a D16Y7 non vtec motor, you should have an CEL on due to the missing vtec solenoid and missing vtec pressure switch.
Does your cel come on for 2 seconds when you turn the key to the on position? If not the lamp has been pulled and the car has been running in limp mode would be my guess. You have more issues that the broken motor at this point.

Right now there’s a hardened bolt stuck in the head and drilling that out might offset the hole. Also more than one bolt hole threads have come out. At this point I think there’s something wrong with the head, it seems too soft
It was after I drilled out the hole and put a helicoil insert in it and idk if shavings fell into the hole but as I was testing to see if the bolt would go all the way down the bolt snapped. I bought the bolts off eBay to replace the old ones I had because they were trash hence the reason I had to retap the head, so I’m kinda thinking the bolts weren’t any good
