D16Y8 Burning a quart of oil every 300 miles PLEASE HELP!!
Hello everyone. I have owned a 2000 civic ex with the d16y8/auto trans for about a year and a half and I have always had a problem with oil consumption. I burn about a quart every 300-400 miles. I have replaced the valve seals, adjusted the valves, cleaned out the breather box, replaced the pcv valve, grommet and breather box o-ring that goes into the back of the block (PAIN IN THE A** without removing the intake) and I am still burning the same amount. This amount of oil can't be due to worn rings can it?? I do not beat on the car at all I only get into VTEC when merging on the highway or passing. I bought the car from a girl who was the second owner and she drove it throughout college...not the type to beat on a car. It was serviced only at honda dealerships until I purchased it. 198,000 miles on the car and it seems to be healthy besides the oil consumption. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!! I am sick of adding a quart every time I fill up!!
compression tested? Inspect the block for signs of an oil leak? That means removing the timing belt cover and inspect the cam and crank seals, remove the torque converter cover and see if there are any oil residues, look around the vtec solenoid and distributor, valve cover, oil pan?
You did all of that? squeaky clean external block?

I have not done a compression test yet but I have changed front main seal, cam seal, oil pan gasket, distributor o ring, vtec solenoid gasket, valve cover gasket. These all used to leak heavily, leaving a puddle every day, and now the car doesn't drip at all. The rear main definitely seeps a little but not nearly enough blame the consumption on. The exhaust smells like a two stroke all the time, even at idle. I had someone follow me for a drive around town and they said the exhaust puffed a cloud of blue smoke at every other stop sign.

If comp is good, your oil control rings are toast.
valve stems usually cause smoke after high vacuum heavy deceleration then getting back on throttle.

Do a dry compression test, wet compression test, and then a leak down test. You've already spent what looks like a bunch of money on replacing gaskets and hours trying to fix the issue, spend $120 on a compression test kit and leak down test kit and an hour getting results.
You can rent a compression tester at your local parts store just pay a deposit and when your done get your money back.
if rings are worn you’d be smoking all the time.

Since you done replace every gasket I would just replace rings, bearings, hone walls and oil pan gasket and check head block for flatness, of course that’s if you want to do all that work and have down time, hope you have another daily.Getting a used motor and having to replace same stuff over again and hope and hope rings are good, that’s if you don’t want to tear into your engine you have now.
Im currently away at college so this summer I'll think about pulling the motor and giving her a rebuild. I have another car I can drive while I'm doing the work. If I have time before then I'll do a compression test for the hell of it. Thanks for everyone's suggestions
