I bought a 97 del sol si auto trans shell and put in a complete manual trans b16a3 swap from another 94 del sol. I think I did everything right this is my first engine swap and also went from auto to manual. So I know the engine does run because I ran it before pulling it and it ran fine, I didnt even unplug anything form the engine itself, just the 2 or 3 harness plugs on both sides. I bought a obd2 to obd1 ecu conversion harness to run the stock p30 ecu. Anyways I dropped the motor in, plugged in the harness connectors, plugged in the ecu, now when I try to start it it will just barely start and run for about 1 second at a couple hundred rpm and immediately die. I dont see anything obvious that I missed. I havent done any wiring I just put the auto trans gear selector in park so it should start I think. Im a little worried because when I got the shell it had a ton of after market wires for alarms and sound system stuff and Im not sure if any of that could be a factor
Im having trouble finding the exact wiring that I need to do. Wouldnt the car start with the gear selector in park? I know its in park because I can pull the key out of the ignition. Like I said the motor will actually fire for about 1 second
not sure how to check that I just assume since it fires it must be getting fuel. What could cause low fuel pressure? It does seem like it could be fuel related because I hear the pump prime and the engine only runs for a second so maybe the pumps not running?
I was messing around with it a little today, it will start but barely and idle around 100-200 rpm, if I try to give it gas slowly it will rev to about 2k rpm and then its almost like its hitting the rev limiter and it starts cutting in and out but wont rev any higher. I cracked the nut on the fuel filter and it sprays out good. I feel like I pretty much am out of ideas. I was looking more at the wiring under the driver side dash, there is a black box it says python model 871xp. Since I dont have any history on this shell before I got it I have a feeling something is messed up with all the aftermarket crap. Is there any hope here besides a complete new cabin harness?
my only advice for the driver side is to make sure the alarm system is functioning like it should. If you're saying that the car starts for a brief moment then dies you need to check to make sure your iacv is connected, your map and tps isn't crossed, your iat and coolant temp sensors connected.
Heres some pictures I was looking at the ecu connectors and opened the black case. It looks like some wires have been modified. I wonder if this could be causing my issue? Whats the best way to undo this? Is this normal to install an alarm? I wonder if its running bad because the alarm was installed on an automatic and now its manual. Ill try to get a video of it running
I'm going to guess when you swapped the engine you forgot one of the crush washers on the fuel lines. I had an issue where one of the crush washers got crushed into the pulsation dampener and it wasn't letting enough fuel through the rail to keep it running. Pretty easy to check.

Ill check but would one washer make it run this bad?
So there is plenty of fuel coming through the return line, all plug wires on dizzy are correct but I did try unplugging each wire from the dizzy with it idling and there was a clear drop in performance for all plugs but #1 cylinder plug there was no change at all even though it was clearly sparking. Seems like some wiring issue must be going on. I guess running an obd1 motor in obd2 car is very unusual because there is nothing anywhere on how to make this run properly, may not be possible
no it ran fine before the swap there was no chance of a bent valve between pulling it and reinstalling it. I searched a lot and can find no other examples of anyone doing this swap. I guess that should have been a red flag
Its a simple b-swap, only thing you need to do right is the auto-to-5spd conversion since this is an automatic del sol you're swapping into. All you said you did was throw it in park so that you could take the key out.
