Icon5 acl race oil pump bad?

So on a previous post about my turbo gsr build I had a guy advise me on not using the acl race oil pump but I had already ordered one. When I received it in the mail I took it out to inspect. My first reaction was not good the gears seem to have a awful amount of play, enough to where I can put my fingers on the inside of the hole and move it left and right quickly and hear clacking and what feels like a gap between teeth. My oem pump with 220k miles is still smooth with no play. I spoke to the seller and he swears they are supposed to be like that. Says he builds Honda’s for a living and uses one on his,but I have talked to other builders and machinist that say there is no way they would use it. Has anyone else ran into this before?

For all my builds I call up Acura and order a brand new one, put it on just the way it is and it supports plenty of power.

What’s with the increase in Oem oil pump price though :/
I use to see it on eBay for $130-140 shipped
now it’s 200 area :/ so sad
Worst part is I definitely bought one bnib left in garage/room > like 2 years ago and now I come to finish my build missing!
Sucks but still Oem!

I was told Honda is slowly weeding out all these, what I thought were, common B series maintenance parts. Prices are more than likely going up due to supply decreasing. I believe I just paid around $150 for a ITR one earlier this year.

^This. Eventually only aftermarket or remanufactured units will be available.

Stick with the OEM pump. Stock up in case they get disco'd.

Hi, I would “ONLY” use the original oil pump that comes with your vehicle & buy with it the Toda racing oil pump gear 84mm 15131-B16-000, & the Toda racing timing belt 06141-B16-000.
I installed these two parts back in 2005 & are still working strong. I was heavily involved in motor racing for 24 years & not once did I have an issue using these Toda parts in my B16a
Make sure you find a technically minded engineer to build your engine properly.
