Default Neutral safety switch?

My 98 civic DX shifts to drive, but the sensor isnt lighting up? All other gears will become lit if put into that gear except drive. Mechanic said it was the transmission saftey switch going out.
where's the location on this car?
I can't seem to find anything online.

thanks!!

So, are you saying that when you depress the brake pedal and move the shifter into DRIVE, the "D" on the dash does not light up, yet in all other gears, the appropriate gear indicator does light up ? Does the vehicle perform normally when driving... accelerating and shifting as expected ?

Your park/neutral safety switch (if that’s what your mechanic meant) is located in the gear selector. If it were going bad, you would have cranking issues, intermittent no-crank issues in particular.

Probably what’s going bad is the bulb (or the circuit) on the indicator in your instrument cluster.

Yes the car is running the same. What prompted the mechanic visit was the car wouldn't turn on (only the accessories) while in park (the drive gear light was also illuminated) so I had to wait about 3/4 of a of a second for the D gear to turn off and the car started right up.

There was only one time the car didnt actually turn on, and I had to wait until the "D Light" turned off as it was also illuminated with the "P". Not sure if that was the reason, the mechanic said it's a safety feature so the car wont turn on if it's in Drive, and the Car thought it was in Drive.
