Default CB300 gear shifting sounds "off"

I just bought a brand new 2018 CB300. Had zero miles on it, drove it off the show room floor myself. The first few months on it were golden. I really, really like this bike. However, about 500 miles in, the gear shifter started acting weird. I've been riding full time (no car) for 3 years so I know i'm not crazy. I brought it to the dealership and the old guy behind the counter who clearly did not want to be there that day just told me to tighten my clutch cable and sent me on my way. So here's the issue...when i shift up, my gear shift pedal will click as it should, then when i release the clutch, there's a second click as if the gear shifter didn't get it all the way into gear and it took the clutch engaging to pop it fully into place. This happens on random gears at random times. I've tried to reproduce it with regularity but with no luck. It happens often on the way from 1st to 2nd but not every time. I've tried to get it to do it at different rates of acceleration and shifting between different ranges of RPM's. Overall, it'll do it probably 2 out of 5 shifts. I should also note that at the same time it started acting like that on the up-shift, the bike stopped switching from neutral to first at red lights. I can try and smash the shifter down but it won't catch, I have to rock the bike back and forth. The guy at the dealership told me "oh some models just act like that". I'm like dude, i just spent 4k on a brand new bike...should it REALLY be doing this? If anyone can either calm my fears that my bike is doing something wrong or if this truly is expected behavior for a new bike of this model, i'd really appreciate it.
