AC blown, should i change AC type?
2004 CRV AC is blown at 100,000 miles. I know all of the other stuff that needs to be changed with an ac project. My questions only relates to should i change to a piston style compressor, stock is spiral type. I do not plan on using OEM. The reason i ask is that a piston driven compressor is suppose to handle heat better, and this i believe is the main reason the AC unit failed, but hey if i get 100,000 out of another i will be more than happy. Side note the piston version is louder, much louder.
Well i took it to a place that only works on Honda's and they put one in without telling me. I took it back because it is a little noisy in slower traffic, and complained. The shop told me it is upgraded version to a piston type, I could tell something had changed as the belt was changed at the same time, which was odd because it had a 1 year old belt on it, and the noise made me question. This is when the shop told me (will they did tell me when i picked up the car but was thinking a newer version of the same compressor), he claimed it was a Denso, but they do not sell a direct bolt on for Honda as i tried looking it up. Also the sticker doesn't say Denso as i can see enough of if from under the car, is says GAMMA but i can not find anything under this name. I am pretty sure they made one fit but not made specifically for my car. I was wonder if it worth keeping or any real advantage? The noise is kind of a pain in stop and go traffic. Either way looks like i will have to confront them on this but the manager already said he would put the old style back on it i want to, but i just wasn't sure at the time.
Regardless I am going to get the exact make and model tomorrow.
I did find that on the sticker it does say the type 10s15c and that does match up to a piston style compressor, so it is a piston style but again the name brand is not correct.
140092P found this number also on the sticker and it does also pull up piston style but again sum off brand, so if noting else will call BS on telling me it is Denso.
Do you think it is worth keeping the piston style.

No issues, just runs loud compared to swirl type, but from what i can tell this is normal for piston type. I guess i will just have to trust these folks as the heat is an issue on the CRV. The piston compressor is suppose to stand up to heat better.
