Default D16z6 piston rings

Long story short I’m doing an oem stock motor rebuild from the bottom up and the only thing i need that I’ve come across so far that’s discontinued are the piston rings. Does anyone know what the best aftermarket ring are that will give me the best fitment(ring end gap) and quality materials?

I know they make good pistons I just heard the rings aren’t that great and end gap can be An issue but again I have no experience with them

so you're planning to put back the stock pistons? Why not just get a cheap set of YCPs and call it a day?

The ring gap check primarily an indication of cylinder wear. Take one of the old rings and measure the gap at the top vs the bottom of a cylinder. If there is a big difference you should have the cylinders bored and use oversize pistons and rings.

Any set of rings you get I would lightly sand the edges and end gaps with 2000grit in case of burrs on the edges. You wouldn’t want to install and run it in a fresh hone job then have it scarred up. Just a piece of mind imo.

Thank you I had it honed and looks like it’s going oversized

It may just be better to have it bored to 75.5 mm and run new pistons and rings. I've had luck (so far) with the Evergreen brand pistons and rings (on Amazon) on a stock rebuild.
