(Video) 98 Honda Accord will not rev past 3000 rpm
Thank you for reviewing and offering insight. Here is a link to my 3000 rpm video of the situation.
My daughters 1998 Honda Accord had a sudden issue. The vehicle drives and will not shift bc the engine never gets above 3000 rpm.
I have verified fuses are good. I attempted to find the ECU and see if that could be reset and need to get back to finding that button. Great clean oil. Good gas. Overall should fire up and drive.
This seems like a more common issues than I ever expected for this vehicle. Any suggestions on the top 3 areas to check beyond what I stated above would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you
PJ

One more thing: OP, you posted Accord questions in the Civic sub-forum. You should probably contact a Mod and have this moved to the appropriate sub-forum so that you can get more assistance.
There is no "reset" button on the ECU, so you can stop looking for that. I am sure that your "check engine" light is illuminated, so what codes are currently stored ??? If you don't know, you should check these BEFORE you reset the ECU... as in before you disconnect the battery. Now confusingly... you stated that the vehicle drives but will not rev over 3000rpm, but then stated that the car "should fire up and drive". So, does the engine run at this time ???
I appreciate the assistance.
It does start, run and drives. Sounds great actually. The rpm never exceeds 3000 as shown in the video and the car will not shift to the next gear bc of that.
I will get the codes pulled and follow up.
I will also look to move to the forum you stated, and thought this was late 90s accords. Thanks again.
