Default My 1996 Honda Accord EX will not start

My Accord would not start. I had Auto Zone check the battery. All good. Lights, etc good. I replaced the starter. It started right up. I shut it down would not start. Nothing. No crank. Is it the ignition switch? Thanks.

Not sure why it would crank and start once, and then not crank at all, but check for 12V at the starter solenoid with the key on. Easy test if you have a multimeter, or possibly Auto Zone could run it for you. I check for power there first, and work back to the Ignition switch. Your intermittent issue does sound like something fickle like an ignition switch. What kind of shape are your keys in? If the one you are using is super old worn out, try the spare or valet key, if you have one.

It could be.
If the lights on the dash don't go off when you turn to III(START) then the switch is probably not making proper contact.
Hold the key in III and jiggle it around, if the starter catches then the ignition switch is most likely toast.
If it is an original switch the plastic housing is what fatigue cracks/breaks and the contacts no longer make.
Use a voltmeter on the starter signal wire. If you are not getting battery voltage when the key is turned to 'III' then it is most likely the switch if there isn't obvious damage or corrosion on the wire or connector.

Hi; is that right? A worn out key can cause a 96 Accord to not crank? I thought that as long as the key turned the cylinder, it was all good. Just asking bc I'm about to post a intermittent no-crank issue and I def have a very sad key and no valet key to try.
Hope this is not considered thread high-jacking

What was the end of your story shumanfoo? Do you still drive this car? Did you get it working right? If so, what was the cause? I'd appreciate knowing, thanks
