Just wanted some feedback before I sell my ITR to my buddy. I am not sure I will have buyers remorse. So, for the guys that sold their R, what did you get to replace and did it fill the void? My ITR is far from a garage queen but is not a heap either. It is a 97. Theft recovery and last confirmed mileage was 33,000 miles. All new interior. No rust, and original rear 1/4 panels. Missing the OEM motor and transmission but all the important matching VINs are there. Firewall, doors etc..

Toying with either an e46 m3. Also looking at a s2000 but not sure I want another Honda.
My budget is around 20k.

What other cars out there am I forgetting in my budget? Essentially, is there anything in that 20k range that will equate to the same fun and collector status? I also like the c5 vette as I think, it is a good value and sounds great.

97 and 98 CDM ITR does not have VIN stickers on the body panels. Only firewall stamp and door jam sticker.

Sounds like a nice car. You should join the BCR whatsapp group assuming you are in Vancouver.

I sold my 01 CDM a few months ago and I can tell you I miss it and there is no replacement in the same price range. Maybe S2000 but it is not as special and I am not a convertible fan.

I bought a 2011 BMW 1M and it is a hell of a lot of fun. Very different car but also a unicorn with manual, LSD, back seats and is a hot rod from factory. It is also more expensive to own and operate.

I drove a few other cars like 997 C2S and I think the only real replacement is a Porsche GT car. There are many owners out there who have had both or keep both in the garage. A friend has had 4 ITR and 4 GT cars so far (the former owner of dave7 ITR). Both GT and ITR are NA race cars that are provide an engaging driver experience.

 

If you're willing to no longer have a Type R, it's obviously time to get a 2.0L turbo sh-awd RDX, but don't get the one with electronic shocks.

 

Think I have a solution: pick up a 03 s2k.
Don't care for the 'more daily friendly' ap2.
Now, whether I get rid of the ITR still remains. If you told a 13yr old, that one day, I'd have a ITR and s2k, I'd know what I'd say and do!

 

I have had both for last 15 yrs. Had GSR and ITR for the first 2 yrs I had the R.

If ITR didn't exist, GSR and S2K would be my favorite cars. But it does and that means S2K is a nice/fun car - especially with open top (even tho I don't like convertibles either !) but it will never replace the R as my favorite driving machine.

If you are just looking for something different, I can understand that, but if you are looking for something that will provide a more satisfying driving experience, good luck.

One person's opinion. I realize many prefer S2K to ITR, just depends on what characteristics you value most.

 

I've owned a 2000 GSR for 7 years. Loved driving/racing it but always had dreams of owning a Subaru STI at some point when I had the means. After graduating school and settling into my career I ended up picking up a 2014 STI hatchback. It was a completely different thrill than the GSR, especially after doing some typical stage 2 upgrades + water/meth injection. I owned it for 5 years but slowly fell out of love in the last year of ownership. Sure, it glued you to the seat when you took off and doing awd slides in the winter were fun but it was hard to enjoy the power without breaking the law and the car itself felt super heavy and numb in some instances. I ended up selling it after 5 years and imported a 1999 Honda Integra Type R. Yes it's slower than the STI but the raw feeling of the care makes it so much more enjoyable.

I was looking into S2000s as well but they weren't very practical for my intended use. with the ITR i can load up a second set of wheels, all of my racing gear, tools, jack, ect and head to the track and still have room for a passenger.

I decided to pick up a NFR S2000. Love it so far. No regrets. This sounds crazy, but I test drove the Lexus IS-F and loved it. Might go buy that too.
