I'm getting the CEL for this after my y8 swap into the '96 hatch. Code 90 or 91 I believe. I've done a lot of research on this but I haven't really come across anything with very good photos. Pretty good explanations on a couple, but no good photos to go with it. Anyway, I'm swapping the gas tanks just to make it easy. I'll be taking photos and checking to see if it's possible to hook up the sensor to the stock '96 civic fuel tank. I pulled the fuel tank from the '97 donor EX today. Here are a few photos of that. I'll be posting more as I finish the job.
This area was pretty easy to get to. I just used a plastic removal tool and popped off the old plastic mounting screws. I believe there were 2 in the wheel well and 2 at the bottom. Here it is. I'm not sure if the evap lines are the same on the hatch tank but I'll see tomorrow. If the line is on there it would mean you could just get the sensor and hook it up to the stock tank.
What happened to that gas door? It looks like someone was jamming in the pump nozzle repeatedly without ever realizing the door was closed.
Dunno, it was like that when I picked it up. Didn’t need it so I wasn’t worried about it. Just thought maybe there was a sticker there that someone did a poor job removing.
I finished up swapping out the fuel tanks. I'm still getting a CEL so I'm going to check that out today. You can mount the sensor to your stock hatchback fuel tank if needed. I looped one of the vacuum lines that go from the sensor to the chassis so that might be why I'm still getting the CEL. I'll post photos soon.
