Oil recommendations for D16 Forged internal engine w/ ACL bearings.
I have freshly built d16z6. Clearances at crank is .002 and rods are .0015 with acl race berings. What oil would I use for first start up and oil for regular driving/boost
You'll get lots of opinions, but for mine I used SuperTech (Walmart) 10W-30 for break in and the first 500 miles, then switched to a full synthetic. Right now I'm running Valvoline VR1 10W-30, and may try their heavier 20W-50 next summer since it can be pretty hot where I live.
Pretty standard clearances. Dax nailed it when he says you could drum up lots of answers here. Lol! For the *most* part, oil choice is 50/50 preferred brand/technical must. Too heavy, you'll starve it.. Too light, you'll starve it. Sheesh..
10w30 is fine for your clearances providing your weather isn't retarded; stupid hot summers, bitter cold winter that starts in August and ends in June, etc.. Cold weather you can go 5w20 or even straight 20. Where I live, I can usually get away with 10w30 year round, same clearances. We rarely see temps below 30 in the winter time and temps in summer will only occasionally surpass 100.

I personally used standard ole 10w-30 Valvoline , I now have switched to 10w-30 full synthetic Valvoline . I always add a pint of Zync additive with each oil change since I’m using Performance cams ..
