Default High Mileage H22A4 Need some tips and suggestions

I have a new project car!!! One of my dream cars here(top 20 anyways) For right now i don't want to do anything crazy like turbo or anything crazy. I'm not looking to build a race car just a nice looking mostly stock Prelude. What im here for right now is anyone with a H22A4 engine prelude or not. What would you suggest i do to help this high mileage motor(312,000 kms) What i know needs to/should be fixed or replaced is: Timing components, water pump/cooling system, Harmonic balancer(crankshaft pulley). I'm going to change all the filters and fluids. Flush everything out. I am currently in the process of pulling the motor to do the work and clean it all up.
Would love to hear from anyone who knows more about these motors specifically about what i should do to help or make things run better.
Thanks in advanced for any help, I am going to start a thread of my process soon too.

With mileage that high I'd check compression and oil consumption before you pull it. It might be more economical to swap in a different engine (F20B, H23A blue top) or a fresh low-miles H22A4.

Yeah, with that mileage I would think it is need of valve stem seals, maybe rings and bearings as well. If the cylinder walls are in good shape it can be re-ringed without a hone.

Of course I am amazed that car doesn't have visible rust holes from Ontario salt, so get it cleaned up and make sure that you can try and stop any corrosion from taking hold and eating the car up.

Probably going to need a bunch of new suspension bushing, ball joints, tie rod ends as well.

I just picked one up abandoned in back of a paint shop to die away...00 sh , h22a4 atts m/t
I've been through all this. Just finishing today with a new coil.
Do yourself a favor ...
Take off the i.m and bypass the oil cooler and reseal BOTH OIL FILTER HOUSING BASE SQUARE SEAL AND OIL COOLER O-RING. Remove unnecesarry hoses under it. That way if If ever does leak in future, which it will , with it bypassed you can just remove the housing all w\o worrying about hoses in the way ,in turn not having to remove i.manifold again.
Oh and check your g101 make sure solid, clean
ground.

Dude nice car, I've got an '01 myself. I won't go as far as to tell you my mileage as it's substantially lower and would...well... I don't know really know, would you even care that mine has lower miles? No, probly not because you know all yours needs, a good owner. Despite my car having lower mileage it actually isn't on the road now and needs almost $2,000 in parts to get back to running so your not alone.
Check compression if you haven't already taken too much apart for the pulling of the engine. Other than that sounds like you 've got your bases covered. There really arent too many major "known" H22A4 issues that plague us or anything, I would just suggest that you do good quality work and replace as many oil or fluid seals as possible, these motors and any high mileage motor tend to leak the fluids, like motor oil.
  • Head Gasket (Use new oem head bolts)
  • Valve Stem Seals
  • Flush Radiator
  • Check Clutch
  • Balance Shaft Seals
  • Oil Pump Seals
  • Check Oil Pressure & Condition of Pump Gears
  • Rear Main Seal
  • Ignition (Dist. Cap & Rotor, Plugs Wires)
  • Look at condition of main and rod bearings if you tear into the motor that far (Also cost dependent, typically wouldn't need to be replaced until 450,000km+)
Here is a couple common problems, check the Oil Cooler O-Ring and Oil pressure Switch for Leaks, these 2 go often:
