Hey everyone, I'm wondering if the frame stiffeners on an RD1 are possible to remove and replace, or if anybody has heard of a DIY or Aftermarket frame brace to take the load off of the frame stiffeners?
I am only asking because I live within the rust plagued Canadian regions and have had an RD1 frame stiffener actually snap clean off at the upper mounting point a few years ago and ever since I've stayed away from CRV in general for fear of that happening while cornering and smashing a blind pothole again. If you aren't sure of what im talking about, it bolts to the unibody and to the rear subframe I believe. Supposed to look like this
Mine however still has some factory paint but once again, the upper mounting point at the body does not inspire safety in my eyes. I'm sure a cut and weld job would work but I'd like to hear from someone with experience having a similar issue. In all honesty, its a little crazy to think that such a little crusty bar is stopping my rear suspension from swinging like a monkey in a tree
