brakes locked up on me
yesterday i was driving my civic and the driver side brake caliper completely locked shut as i was pulling out of the gas station. I couldn't get it to move by just gunning it or pushing it. I was stuck in the middle of an intersection so just cut the brake hose going to the caliper and it freed right up. One odd thing i noticed is a little bit of fluid sprayed out but the line was pretty much empty? anyway i was able to push the car out of the road until i got it towed home. upon closer inspection it appears my brake hose was rubbing on the tire, although it didn't rub through. I guess what i'm asking here is what exactly is the problem? i'm assuming the brake hose but i don't really understand what caused it to lock my brakes up?
Well, what I was trying to get at was the typical reason that brakes start to seize is the booster to master cylinder clearance is not correct because ppl using different MC, like a EX MC in a non-EX civic. it changes the pushrod clearance and not adjusted for the booster vacuum.
Since you HAVE an EX, i still wonder if your EX MC pushrod is spaced properly. Its worth a check.

I had the same issue. I had previously replaced my brake booster with the exact same one and had not had this issue until months later ruling out the brake booster. Same issue righr rear caliper locked up. I was able to figure out that by pulling up on the pedal that it would release enough to move. If my car sits for a week or 2 the same caliper will lock up like drum brakes can do. Once i move it will pop free. The issue in my case is a bad caliper that intermittently binds. I take a look at the caliper if all else check out.
just wanted to let anyone reading this thread know that i did figure out the problem. I replaced my driver side brake line and bled the system. Then i turned the car on and turned back the booster pushrod adjusting screw until the brakes freed up and so far they have been working fine.
