2018+ Accord 2.0T Engine and Transmission Fears
So about a month back I got a new Accord Touring with the 2 liter turbo engine and the 10 speed transmission. Of course it also has the variable ride height or whatever the suspension does when you put it in to sport mode. I'm sure we're all aware of this configuration but my point is this: To my recollection Honda has not used such, how should I say, high tech components on their vehicles. Being that this isn't a well researched and implemented V6 nor a four or five speed auto transmission that has been around forever I have a lot of doubts if these new systems will stand the test of time. Because of this I'm thinking of getting the mechanical coverage from my insurer Geico instead of paying the thousands it will take to swap out the transmission or struts if they should fail.
Does anyone else feel a little frightened by this level of tech that has only been used in one previous model year? Will these machines last for nearly a decade like I usually drive my cars for? 100k+ miles and all that? I really think this transmission will fail right about the time the 3 year warranty expires. This is more of an opinion thread and it's my first but I'm really trepidatious about the suspension, engine, and especially transmission.

I agree. Honda has never been good at building automatic transmissions. Let alone a freaking 10 speed! 😳
Only thing we can do is wait it out and hope that Honda as a company stands out as a great long lasting product as it has in the past! TWT (time will tell)

Are you saying that they had auto transmission failures in the past? I didn't know that was a constant thing with them. Funny enough I've had 2 accords in the past and they don't last two years thanks to bad luck (other drivers) so I haven't had it many years to see a failure. The 96 was abysmal though, good thing someone t-boned me to put it out of its misery, complete lemon.

I do wanna really make sure I’m being understood correctly so I’m gonna mentions a few points that are in connection with me saying the Honda transmissions aren’t very good. Honda transmissions have a very strict maintenance schedule. Most people don’t know that their transmissions need to be maintained almost as regularly as the engine does (fluid change) and I do feel that this is why their transmissions go before their engines do. But I’m all fairness, Honda usually builds REALLY good engines, so the fact that the trannys go out first isn’t necessarily a bad thing, because by the time they do go out, most other car companies mechanicals fail as well.
Especially early on in their respective manufacturing lives, both the 4-Speed and 5-Speed automatics from Honda were absolute crap, even when well maintained. This is why Honda offered extended warranties (to beyond 100,000 miles if I'm not mistaken) on them.
