Icon5 Fuel Filter location in 1998 Honda Accord Lx (4 cylinder)

Hi,

I've been having issues with my car occasionally not wanting to start, and feeling sluggish on acceleration. It's due for oil/filters, etc and I was asking the mechanic if they can check (change if needed) the fuel filter. He said its located in the gas tank and that they never change fuel filters unless they're changing the fuel pump??? It seems to me that changing the fuel filter as needed would mean the fuel pump would last a lot longer. So I've been trying to figure out where exactly the fuel filter is on my car. I keep coming up with conflicting answers... Some say it is accessible through the trunk (I do see a cover that definitely opens into the gas tank from the trunk) I've tried to find a fuel filter under the hood as a lot of people say it should be there, but I'm not having any luck. Is there anybody who can tell me for sure where the fuel filter is in a 98 Honda accord?

Thanks!
Emily

The fuel filter is part of the fuel pump assembly and located in the fuel tank.

In regards to the part about changing the fuel filter for the fuel pump to last longer, many fuel pumps last the useful life the car without ever being replaced.
