Can you tell from this pic if my timing belt jumped a tooth ?
Cam gear with #1 piston is at TDC .
To check if timing belt skipped a tooth do I need to line up those two marks in pic only ? Or do i need to line up with other sight marks like the one lower and to the right ?(not in pic)
If all I need to line up is those marks in pic then im off by exactley the measurment of a tooth. There seems to be enough slack on the belt to slip it off. But once i slip it off anyone know what i should do to move the belt over a tooth one way or the other ? Like if i slip the belt off at TDC piston #1 how do i move it over a tooth without making piston 1 not on TDC?
Anyones help is be greatley appreciated !
Have a great day, James.
So whats all involved to check for the kind of timing im looking for ? Do i need to remove lower tb cover as well or the engine mount in order to be able to see the crank pulley sights ?
theres mechanical timing and ignition timing. The cam has to be aligned with all 4 makes, 2 on the rear timing cover and 2 on the cam gear, and the crank also has a timing mark, 1 on the pulley and 1 on the outer timing cover. FSM can be helpful.
This looks to be the D15B8 92-95 USDM CX motor.
You align the two side marks of the cam gear to the head. Then look down at the lower timing cover and you will see a set of sights a V and ^. If the ^ is aligned through the V and directly in that line is the white lone mark on the crank pulley, the car is mechanically in time and you did not skip a tooth. The lone white mark away from the 3 marks grouped together is your crank TDC mark on the crank pulley.
This mark aids you in not having to pull the lower timing belt cover to verify mechanical timing.

Its a d15b vtec from a 92-95 so ya same thing pretty much. Thanks for the feedback ill take a look at the crank pulley tomorrow . Hope it makes sense more once I see it.

The single mark at 7 o'clock on the cam pulley should line up with the plastic pointer. The arrow part at the end not whatever that notch is.
So yes it looks like it is off by one tooth. If the belt has skipped put a new belt on, do not keep using the old one.
