Default P20 B000 tranny w D16Y7 fitment issue 97 hatch

Got this car a couple years ago and really liked the gearing for non- highway. It's been trouble-free until engine lost compression.
Replacing engine mounts now I found this tranny doesn't mate flat to the tranny mount bracket. This trans casting isn't the same as the stock tranny so the mount sits on a slice of unmachined edge. It was bolted together anyway but the gap is .065".
Since it hasn't given any problems is this geometry not very critical? Is shimming it with .065" washers a good / bad idea?
If I can find one would a bracket that goes with this trans mate up to the mount in the car?
Or.......?

Bolting a 5G "D" series transmission into a 6G chassis is not a direct fit... it is pretty darn close, and as you have now discovered, the mount doesn't always fit perfectly... but many have made it work. A small shim shouldn't cause any long term ill affects... but if this is really your concern, the best option is to get a 6G transmission and put it in place of the current transmission.

If what you want is for someone here to GUARANTEE that what you are doing is going to be OK... I am not sure you will find that level of support.

Thanks for the feedback! Yeah I get there's no guarantee, especially since this seems to be an uncommon combo cuz anybody would want to upgrade from this engine.
