Default D series vs B series 6th gen

Hi, been a lurking on old posts for a while, I own a 97 civic ex that had the engine and possibly the tranny swapped to a d16y7; still has the original ECU so I always have a error code for a vtec total system failure(I understand why). I have started to make it a goal for 600whp with forced induction or n/a depending, but the only thing has stopped me is figuring out the cost effectiveness between either doing a mini me swap and rebuilding internals with the d16y7, or to just get a b series like a b16/18 and building it the same. Either way I know with the current setup I will have to replace the axles and diff and the clutch system to handle to power output, but honestly, I just don't know which is a better route. More so this will be mainly a diy project with professional chip tuning and so on, so I expect to be paying quite a lot regardless, but not really sure how to go about choosing the right engine, thought a 600hp d engine does sound cool.

first post, just joined, wants 600hp d series on chip tuning in 2019.

Lets just start with what oil you should put in your motor.

Well, I have been doing car work since I was 21; I know quite a lot about cars minus electrical, never really delved too much into that. But this is my first time owning any Honda, and I fell in love, so yes, I plan on restoring the body and frame as well as the suspension system, and rebuilding the engine for performance. More so I have gone back and forth between choosing an engine, so hoping a second opinion or two will help me make up my mind.

Built boosted b20b or b20z would be my bet. Blocks are cheap and plentiful and basically everything besides Pistons is the same as the b18. Just need to take extra care of the block/build and have awesome tune to not crack the cylinders.

Well, I plan on basically bulletproofing the block anyway, who wouldn't replace the sleeves for serious horsepower? But hadn't researched the b20, would a 2.2l fit without body modifications in my bay?

Read this whole thread, copy this guy’s setup.
Built, machined B20 block and built machined B18c(GSR) vtec head or b16 vtec head, turbo. He uses b16 Head. Expect to spend a lot to get reliable 600+ whp.
Built boosted b20vtec will do it. Just need awesome tune and build
