Will driver's seat from 1998 Accord, fit 1996 Accord?
Dear Experts,
I have a 1996 Honda Accord EX-R
2.2 VTEC
4 door
Leather, power/electric seats
Which was part of the model/styling years:
1994-1997
After 23 years, the driver's seat panels
are splitting in a few areas.
At the junkyard, there are a
number of nice used leather seats
But they are from 1998 Accords or newer.
Yes, I know that once Honda comes out
with a new model, that the old parts
usually won't fit.
However, I do know that at least some
parts will span multiple models.
I've seen it in results of searches online.
While I can't remember the exact part,
it was for various mechanical parts.
Even this forum is:
Honda Accord (1990 - 2002) and 1997 - 1999 Acura
At the junkyard, I was looking at the
bolt patterns. They look pretty similar.
Looks like 4 bolts, to hold the whole assembly.
I suppose I could measure the bolt center to center
distances on the two different years, and
see if they are identical.
The other issue, would be the electrical connections.
Has anyone tried, to take a seat from a
1998 Accord, and install it in a 1994-1997 Accord?
Re: Will driver's seat from 1998 Accord, fit 1996 Accord?
The bolts that attach the passenger seat frame to the floor don't line up. Close, but not close enough. I think the seat could be made to fit, but I didn't try. Driver's seat is probably similar.
Re: Will driver's seat from 1998 Accord, fit 1996 Accord?
It can be made to fit. It will just require some fiddling with the mounting brackets and bolt holes. You could cut the brackets off your stock seat and weld them onto the new seat.
Re: Will driver's seat from 1998 Accord, fit 1996 Accord?
Yeah, I would do what Aradin suggested. Find a fabrication shop, and have them modify the 96 rails to fit on the 98 seats. The 98 Accord seats do seem to sit a little taller than the 5th Gen seats, so if you are a tall person, you may have headroom issues.
Also, it may be worth checking if you have any 97-99 Acura CLs in the junkyard. They share much of the same chassis as the 94-97 Accord, and the seats are a direct fit. The CLs were much more common in leather compared to the Accord (about 50/50 chance of them having leather). The drivers seat is power too, so it should be a direct bolt in for your EX-R.
Re: Will driver's seat from 1998 Accord, fit 1996 Accord?
There are TL's and then there are CL's. The CL is nothing but a rebranded Accord with a different front and rear. Anything not cosmetic, like the fenders and dash parts, will probably interchange. The TL is a totally different car and making the seats fit would be harder than fitting the 6 Gen.

Re: Will driver's seat from 1998 Accord, fit 1996 Accord?
HI guys
Thanks for all your help.
Today I went to the junkyard.
And saw two Honda Accords
Red 1996
Green 1998 with nice leather seats
I tried to first take the 1998 passenger seat and
put it into the 1996. If that would have
worked, I'd go for the driver's seat. But I would
need to bring portable 12 volt source.
But the newer seat did not fit the older model.
A few things about the bolt holes.
See the pictures.
Side to side:
the 1998 front seat holes are about 1/2 inch wider.
The rear bolts closest to the console are different.
1996: Bolts vertically into the floor,
1998: Bolts horizontally into the side console
Front to back:
The bolt holes for the 1998 are
a few inches longer than the 1996
So, a nice try. But no luck.
Since the swapping didn't work with the 1998 Accord, I
didn't bother with the 1998/99 Acura TLs that were also there.
Hope this helps any other poor soul
