Default Is the (Inner?) Timing belt cover necessary to run properly?

Hey all,

So I just put back my engine after replacing my headgasket and realized I didn't put on this timing belt cover:

I have have both upper and lower outer covers installed though, will I be ok without it?
Thanks for any help.

If it is important to you to insure that no small foreign object can accidentally enter the timing belt area... then you need to re-install the inner cover.
