So for the past two days my 92 Civic DX has been taking about 10-15 minutes to start the engine. The clutch was all the way down and the shifter was in neutral. It has a rebuilt engine with almost 200K miles on it and it’s a manual transmission. Both times where when it was in the 90’s (Fahrenheit) outside, the A/C was set to on from the night before, and I’m close to needing an oil change but the oil sensor light hasn’t turned on yet. Not sure if those have anything to do with it. Anyone have an idea what may be wrong? I appreciate any help I can get.

 

"Oil sensor light?" That light is not a mild reminder to change the oil when you get a chance. It means that there is no oil pressure. It's a dire situation if that light ever comes on; severe engine damage can occur in a matter of seconds. You need to be checking the oil with the dipstick and keeping it full.

Now on to the starting problem. Does it crank but not start or does it not crank at all?

 

Does the fuel pump prime?

If not, the main relay may require resoldering or the ECU may require replacing or new capacitors.

 

Ok I will make sure to check it more often. It does crank but won’t start when I first try. I don’t hold the key because I know that can be bad so I let it go and wait a couple of minutes to try again.

 

Update: So before I turned the car off last night I turned off the A/C so it wouldn’t be blowing when I start the car so when I went to start it today the engine started on the first try.
