Hey, guys. I'm having trouble finding any valuable information on this.
The head gasket blew in my civic, and a much cheaper option is to swap the engine out.
I've found a D17A2(I believe, I haven't gone to see it yet), and I'm wondering if this will swap into my car without any real modifications.
Also wondering if any other engines would swap in, in case this is an A1 or another.
Any suggestions and pointers would be a great help too, I've never swapped a motor, but I'm mechanically inclined.

The differences you will be worried about would be between the sohc non-vtec engine (vp/dx/lx) and sohc vtec engine from (ex). And if it was early wiring and computer or late wiring and computer. Not if it is Canada which may be called si or something but still sohc. You just want a d17 from a not California emissions sohc vtec car with complete wiring engine wiring harness, and a 2005 ex computer and key that match. I can't say if a 2003 and 1/2 usdm civic ex engine will have every last plug connector exactly the same as your car but I'd guess yes. Could you get the engine from a wrecked 2004 or 2005 car that you could hear run? That could be the way to go over a longblock out of a 2001.

So, the engine in the EX Special Edition from Canada apparently doesn't have VTEC.
At least, the information I've found regarding North American cars said that only the D17A2 has VTEC.
I know the EX from the States has the D17A2.

 

I think they just call the ex an si up there. So then their ex must be like the lx.
