So I did a full d16y5 swap into 97 ex coupe but i'm running a y8 harness with 4 wire o2 sensors.. I have two ecus in hand ..HX p2N and non vtec p2p ecu.. I keep getting a P1381: Cylinder Position Sensor Intermittent Interruption when I run p2N ECU but no code when I run a p2p .. Obviously I wanna run a correct p2N ecu for my d16y5 swap but it's an issue right now. I tested out the ecu in another HX and no code so ecu isn't the issue either..
I know people usually replace the dizzy to clear the code but I don't know if the dizzy is an issue since I'm not getting a code with P2P ecu .
You're not running the HX harness, there's your reason at why its running properly in an actual HX. Depending on the ecu you might need the wideband o2 sensor.

No I get that I LL have to get a correct o2 sensor later but I'm trying to understand the p1381 code tho..and it isnt A/F related issue , is it? The car runs fine with either ECU for now but I LL need to clear the codes for emission purposes..

As Tony suggested, install the correct 96-98 HX harnesses before you do anything else.
Fair enough..separate question..so I opened up valve cover to make sure I have a d16y5 head which I do, ive noticed something odd in one off the cylinders sparkplug tube..see that small black rubber looking thing (I know it can't be anything rubber) on second pic? Anyone know what that is? I check the other three cylinders and I don't see that..
Cylinder 4 is the top pic and 3 is the bottom ..I only took the picture of the 4th as a reference but 2 and 1 also looks the same ..you only see the top of just the Pistons..However, 3 has that small black piece or whatever that is if you zoom in on the picture..

Post pics comparing cylinders 1 & 3, which are always at the same stroke position.
I hope not..wouldnt a bent valve or anything serious like that cause an irregular symptoms? Because car starts, runs, and drive fine outside of minor codes I need to clear (o2)
I did a compression test and got around 185-190 all across..so I don't think I have a bent valve...For my original question regarding p1381, I will post results after I change a dizzy since my friend has a new extra one and see if it fixes it along with changing sparkplugs since they're kinda worn out already..
Can't see any difference, though bottom pic of cyl 3 piston is out of focus.
I expect quite a few carbon build ups if you're wanting to see the Pistons condition but you can tell the cylinder 3 is the only one with that *mysterious* black piece in the corner ..what's what I was curious of..
Based on your pics, I see no substantial difference and therefore I have no concerns at this point.
Thanks for your replies man..once I'm done with a few minor maintenance , I LL update pics of all cylinders and hopefully no issue..I'm selling this car to my little cousin and just wanna make sure that I'm handing her a reliable car for a few years at least lol..
Are you taking pictures of each cylinder while it is at TDC ??? If you are taking pics without moving the crankshaft to place each cylinder at the valve adjustment point in the crankshaft rotation, then you may in fact find an opportunity when the edge of some valves can be seen while peering through the spark plug hole... and this would be completely normal.

That makes perfect sense..and I hope that's the case...lol.
