Default Iinjectors on 89 LXI leaking....

My girlfriends 89 accord (think its an LXI) has a very slow fuel leak coming from the injectors on the 1st and 3rd cylinders. There is reminants of dried fuel residue/gunk around the injector area. Im assuming it is the o ring near the end of the injector that is old and cracked and leaking. I don't ride in her car much but sometimes you get that fuel smell. I don't like the idea of her driving around with this sort of leak so I want to fix it ASAP.

Am I most likely correct in thinking it is these o rings that are the problem?

At about 140,xxx miles should the entire injector be replaced due to age or should I just concentrate on putting in new o rings to seal these bad boys back up? Kragen has new injector o ring kits that are like 9 bucks for each injector. Is this price about right??? Is there a better place to buy these?

Thanks in advance for your quick input guys. I'd like to get this problem fixed asap so my girlfriend doesn't blow up in her car.

ahhh, welcome the world of LX-i injectors. Unfortunatly, it cannot be fixed with the simple rubber o ring kit. If you look close, you can see the leak is coming from the teeny tiny gap betwixt the metal part of the injector and the plastic top. You need to replace the injectors.

Injectors leaking, the occasional main relay in the summer, and the headlight retractor switch are the most common 3rd gen problems i see.

86-89 Accord LX-i is the best honda ever made.

How muc do injectors run for an accord ($80 each?) Also what size injectors are they? Is the dealership gonna really screw me over on buying injectors or should I just go to a Kragen or Pep Boys for the injectors.

Any hints to installing new injectors for a guy who has never taken apart a fuel system???? Thanks!

probably around 80 each. I got mine for free

The install is straightforward and easy, just make sure to relieve any pressure in the line before disassembling and lube the seals before reinstalling.
