Not the normal kind of thing I pester you guys with, but I just wanted to ask about this.
I have a tired D15B7 with over 300k and drinks half a quart of oil every 2 weeks.
When I'm in a lower gear (1st through 4th) and I'm going up the gears at a normal daily driving pace, it accelerates like you would expect from a 1.5l sohc.
I spend most of my time between 2500rpm and 4000rpm.
If I rev it past 4200, it noticeably picks up the pace. It's like a 2 stroke power band.
Is this just old injectors and electronics with a quirk or is this a non-vtec Honda thing and I'm dumb?
Car is a 1995 civic Lx with an s20 5 speed, cold air intake and a full 2 1/2" exhaust.

 

This is Jack's stock D15B7 tuned with Hondata S200 back in the day, high mileage. As can be seen peak torque is happening around 4700 rpm and rides out to roughly 5700 rpm and the power just keeps climbing to near redline before starting to fall off. Stock redline I think is 6500. So no, yer just bouncing into the full power portion of the power band.
