I just started up a weekly pool maintenance company. The vehicle I chose to use was a 1999 crv manual. I want to be able to haul more then what it was designed for. Load more in the back and haul a small trailer sometimes. What upgrades can I do to increase torque, horsepower and suspension.

This is first started out as a project for my business and has turned into a new hobby I’m really getting a kick out of.

 

Buy something heavier. Not a lot that can be done to that platform.

 

Haven't seen anything in the forums about increasing engine power. You can certainly beef up suspension, but chassis parts like trailing arms, bushes, joints may not be upgradeable. Most of all I would not want a 20 year old work vehicle.

 

And you are still confined to the GVWR and GCWR of the vehicle. If you were to get into an accident over the weight limit of the vehicle your insurance will probably be void.

 

Go buy a cheap 1500 series Silverado and call it a day.

 

Thanks for the replies, I definitely wouldn’t try to beef it up so I can go past the legal weight on the CRV. It’s light duty mainly consists of some pales of chems. I would need to deliver 50 lb bags of salt to a customers pool. It has 170k miles on it but runs great, hopefully I’ll get another 130k miles out of it. Being a one man show I chose a vehicle that I would be able to do all basic services on it. Keep it maintained to the best of my abilities. Parts are cheap, gas mileage is great for what I’m doing. Pickups are good but I wanted to be able to keep the chems out of the rain and lock it up. Until this business takes off, this is what I have. I enjoy working on it to, few beers in the garage and keeps me off the radar with the misses, lol
