Default Help identifying vtec head part

Ive found that this part is only on vtec heads, and only effects the middle vtec rocker arm. What is it and what purpose does it serve?

Lost motion assembly. Keeps the VTEC rocker in contact with the cam when not in VTEC.

Make sure you're able to press down on it with your thumb/fingers. The center section spring back up after doing so. If not, it may need replacing.
