Recently bought a 97 Honda Civic. It will only start and idle rough if you hold the gas to the floor. What could that be? Cleaned plugs and air cleaner.

 

What engine it has?
There are many things that can cause that, so it would help if you tell little bit more about the car.
Did you buy it as broken or have you already been driving it without problems?
Is there some maintenance procedures that have been done lately?
Every bit of info would be helpful here.

 

Not sure exactly on what motor it is. It’s not a vtec lol. I bought the car tonight he said it ran when he parked it 2 years ago. Went to start it and it would. It will turn over but that’s it’s. If you push the gas the whole way to the floor it idles rough that’s it. Not sure as far as maintenance goes it has sat for around 2 years.

 

If the gasoline in it is two years old that may cause the problems, so you could try to drain old gasoline out and fill it with new gasoline.
