Default Smog question

I have a 96 Civic which was BAR'D for a 97 GSR. It currently has a Type R BLOCK, a GSR head but the valves were set up for Type R cams. So I got my cams micro polished and I'm going to pick them up and have everything installed but I need to buy an ECU. I'll be running an AEM intake and a Cat-Back exhaust and that's about it as far as mods. I also have to buy an intake Manifold, fuel rail, injectors and all of the rest of the smog related equipment. Any recommendations on those parts would be greatly appreciated for this small build. My real question is can I run a Type R ECU and still pass a smog check in Cali? With a Type R Block and GSR head setup for Type R wouldn't it make the most sense to run a Type R ECU? Tia

What intake manifold are you using?

I was going to go stock unless I could find a carb legal one that wasn't too expensive.

GSR has dual intake runners with butterfly valve. If you are running the GSR manifold, you need the GSR ECU. It's also BARd for the GSR.

In the end you need engine management like Hondata to deal with your mashup of parts long term. You *should* be able to pass smog with the Type-R bottom end and GSR top/ECU.

After talking to the mechanic just going to be putting everything together we finalized on Type R intake manifold Type R ECU because the cams are Type R and he'll smog it.
