Default SOHC to DOHC head swap? D16Y8 to B16a, etc...

How feasible would it be to swap a B series head onto a D16Y8? Basically going from SOHC to DOHC... Would it require much modification? Is there much to gain from doing this? Is the B type engine plug-n-play into a D type Civic ('00 EX)? What about an H22a engine?

heh, mildly amusing newb tech question, which might get you flamed pretty hard by some people on here....but don't fret, I'll take you under my protective knowledge-wing ....

You cannot mix heads/blocks/pistons/trannys between D,B, & H-series engines. Those parts can only be mixed around within their own respective series, and only depending on what you want to do.

D-series starts off as the smallest physical engine series, then B-series physical engine parts are actually bigger than D-series, then H-series is even bigger than B-series parts. Only a few small things can be swapped around with each series, such as a majority of sensors & throttlebodies..that's about it though. You can't put a B-series head on a D-series block or vice versa, its not physically possible.

As far as your question about plug n' playing a B-series engine into a 00' civic....yes, it's plug n' play with all OEM parts (correct motor mounts, wiring harness, ecu, etc) if you know what to look for. The H-series motor(s) are not a plug n' play motor for civic/integra's; Honda didn't make the civic/integra models with an H-series motor in mind. You'll have to buy an aftermarket specialized motor mount kit for this specific swap; Hasport sells a kit. Honda made the 92-01 Civic line-up bolt n' play engine compatibility with B and D-series engines.....but not H-series. H-series is actually made on the Accord/Prelude/Acura CL platforms. Integra's are mainly built on the B-series platform, but for the 94-01 DC integra, you could actually bolt-in a D-series engine, with the respective D-series motor mounts from a 92-95 civic. Gets a little tricky..

hope this all makes sense to ya...

Hmmm.... B-series head on a D-series block, they're 2 totally different sizes, the head would have inches to spare hangin over the edge
