You didn't replace only the lock cylinder. You also effected the anti-theft system (immobilizer). Box the original key.

If you don't want to reprogram the immobilizer system.

1. Install the original immobilizer unit back.

2. Either (a) tape the original key to the replacement key or (b) tape the original key inside inside the plastic steering wheel cover to hide it and forget about it. The Immobilizer won't function as a theft deterrent; but you save money.

So I swapped that over and held the key to the “new” key and tried turning over and it just cranks. Now there is a CPS code and the car has been struggling here and there. Could it finally have gone out as well to add to the immobilizer? This trick with the key how successful is it? Should it work if I did it? Because if I did it and it didn’t work then it’ll be the CPS correct?

sorry for it being lengthy. I have a CPS on hand.

Don't do it like that. You don't want two chip keys there. Do it like I explained in this post.

The idea is to make the ecm think everything is cool and the car is not being stolen (broken steering column)

Also if you could remove the chip from the key and put it into a ilco replacement key that will work.

How about this:

Unplug the new immobilizer, plug in the original immobilizer with your original key taped to the ring... and tuck it somewhere out of the way. This way your ECU still "sees" the original key that is paired with it and the new key will crank the car. This will effectively negate the security benefit of the system, but at least you can drive the car until you can afford to get the new key programmed to match the ECU.
