Default Screws for Del Sol ignition switch

Does anyone know the size of the two screws that hold on the ignition switch to the cylinder? I bought a Del Sol from some kid who had taken it apart, but not kept track of the hardware.

Check the history of that car. I bet it was a theft recovery vehicle. You can pick up those two screws from your local junkyard.

If I recall correctly, they have a 6mm hex head and have coarse threads (not machine screw threads).

Other Hondas/Acuras will work.

Yes, they are coarse thread screws.

You can find some at home depot, with the hex female head.

They are special shoulder type screws so the plastic won't crack when you tighten them. Note that the holes in the plastic are much larger than the holes in the metal. If you tried to use an ordinary hardware store screw, the plastic would fit loosely on it, leading you to overtighten the screw and crack the plastic. So don't even start down that road with hardware store screws.

You need the special OEM screws.

best option...drill and tap for new (tamper-proof) screws. That's what I have done to several Honda cars include my own. This is a good theft deterrent method and it WORKS.

I like the hidden fuel pump kill switch for theft deterrent. Let the guy crank the car and have it never start. That noise attracts a lot more attention than any alarm would.

Ehh, when they tried to get mine they didn’t exactly bother to unscrew the switch from the cylinder. They just pried the lock cylinder off the column, snapped it off and used the same flathead screwdriver to turn the switch.

But I agree that layers are your friend. NpeTune antitheft saved my car that day.
