Need help with 1991 Honda Civic si?
So I have a 1991 Honda Civic si 1.6l. I replaced the distributor, spark plugs, vallve cover gasket. It also has 169712 miles. And i chnaged the oil. The oil after the oil change still looks a little black wondering if I should just do another oil change or drop the oil pan and clean it. Also randmoly my car will blow a small amount of very light with smoke from start but go away after a second. It happens randomly. I bought it from a guy could it be the exhaust. I am pretty sure it is the factory one? If someone can help thank you I would really appreciate it.
Oil is fine and the exhaust is fine. Only thing the exhaust does is carry what comes from the engine. It could be your rings or your catalytic converter. Doubt it's your cat and if it's light smoke, I wouldn't worry about the rings.
Ok so should I try like taking the cat off and drive.it for a bit see if smoke comes out and if there is no smoke than it's my cat. Also if the oil is a little black that's fine?
Keep doing regular oil changes and you'll be fine. With the age and miles on your car, it's most likely your rings. I happens and won't cause any harm. It'll get worse over the years though, but not that bad, just a normal Honda thing.
It could be your plug tube gaskets. Check your plug wires and see if the bottoms are oily. Oil can seep down the plug threads and smoke like that. Replaced them on my old 90 Si and the smoking went away.
I checked this she replaced all of them earlier and j still happened. I actually took off the back part of the exhaust and drove it to see if it was the cat. And the smoke went away now I'm just going to get a new exhaust I guess it was the back cat that was making it smoke. Crazy
