I have a 95 EG civic that I have been stripping down to build a really cheap rallycross car. It was free, in surprisingly good mechincal shape, but had been hit hard on the front and rear of the car. Stolen a few times as well. Was too nasty to make into a drag or track car. I have the car fully stripped down and have been cutting out well everything I don't need. While stripping it down and measuring their is no way I am getting a cage in that will fit all of the co-drivers I will be sharing the car with.



So figured why not just cut the entire body off and build a death kart style exo car take the cage up high enough so we all fit and roll out some fenders. Like this but with cage that actually works for rally-cross.


Anybody have a good template of where to cut the roof and rear quarters. I have marked out basic cage mounting point and they are so far inboard I don't think I will get near but I would prefer to avoid a mistake if possible. If not its easy enough for me to just take the roof off let the cage guilt built and start hacking everything out past the cage.

Should I cut up from the bottom of the car say inches and roll over the excess and stitch it into the lower chassis for increased strength.

Seam welding yes or no.

Cheap 15 inch 8.5 wheels that work offroad. Something OEM or aftermarket and seriously cheap.

I have a good bit of 1.75 .120 DOM cage material left over from another build that we are using. Cage builder is a friend of mine who used to do nascar/dirt track cage welding but she is used to building from templates. Anybody have a NASA approved cage design that we can borrow or purchase. This is not gong to be built to a class obviously but there are some places we can run locally that don't care.

Weight distribution is going to interesting, I can move the battery and a few other things back but is there anything else I can stick back there to get it safe. Math says 68/32 right now on the race scales and its only going to get worse. Engine swaps that are lighter then the factory D15, move the radiator to the rear.
