2001 CRV Missing Crank Position Sensor
I am working on a friend's 2001 CRV. The timing belt shredded, and we bought a replacement engine for it.
The engine is supposed to be from a 2001.
When installing the "new" engine we noticed that the crank position sensor connection has no place to connect to. Looking closely at the old one, I can see the crank position sensor and the daisy-wheel with metal tabs that magnetically trigger the CPS whenever they roll by. The "new" engine though doesn't have the same features. There is no "daisy wheel" behind the timing belt drive sprocket, and there is no crank position sensor on the "new" engine. The bolt holes that the old engine has for the CPS are missing on the "new" engine, and there is less romm under the timing cover for a CPS assembly so there's no way to take the old one and put it on the "new" engine.
Everything else matches up fine.
What should I expect with a missing crank position sensor?
What would be the "fix"?
Thanks in advance!

Yeah. We did the bypass wiring thing and reset the ECU but it still runs like crap. Can't get itself out of first gear and won't idle.
We also double-checked that the spark plug wires were correct. Still no luck.

Read the updated ckf bypass method. Or swap the oil pumps. If it runs like crap you did something wrong, I just finished a b20 swap in my 99 sedan and even without the ckf sensor connected it idles and moves fine.
I would assume the thing has a crank sensor, but it's obviously much different than the original engine. Find the identification number for the engine (stamped on the block?) and look into how it monitors the crank.
