Default 91 Ex Sedan Possibly Faulty Cluster

Picked a 91 Ex Sedan yesterday. Only issues it has are the fuel and temperature gauges aren't working and squeling noise that comes from behind the steering column. Any help would be appreciated.

Is the squealing speed-dependent? If so it could be the speedometer cable. I've also had the speedometer itself make a bad squealing noise.

Have you verified that the sending units for fuel and temperature a hooked up?

The squealing only occurs when driving, the speed doesn't really matter. As for the gauge issues, the fuel and temp don't move both are stuck at the midway point. And the tach is doesn't really respond at all, I'll rev and it only goes up to 1500rpm and gets stuck there. I'll need to get a hold of a meter to check for signal. I think it might be a wiring issue as the car has an aftermarket alarm.

Check the dash wiring harness ground which bolts beside where the steering column attaches. You'll have to remove the knee bolster to see it.

The squealing is the speedometer cable. I removed mine at the transmission, greased the cable, insert and repeat a few times. Then reattach to the transmission. Watch out for the retaining clip as it could fall into the transmission. 30K miles now without the squeak!

I figured that out scouring the forums. Thanks anyways that info is useful considering the age of these cars.
