Default Civic auto repair

I'm new to the auto repair not by choice but by single limited income. I have a 1998 civic ex with a D16y7. It's in need of a lot of repairs. I don't see any where on the engine if it is a VTec or not. My RSX clearly showed VTec on it. It's overheating and misfiring on 3 cylinders and idles very low and rough. It will die at times when stopped. The thermostat and the temperature cooling sensor and radiator are new. Spark plugs have been cleaned and one replaced but still need to get the other three changed. I really don't know what to check next. Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.
Never been in this situation before.

I wish it was possible but not at this time. I have to work with what I was left with.

Sounds like mechanical and/or ignition timing could be off. Those are first things I would check.

Then see what codes it is throwing

I forgot to mention the water pump is new
The only codes showing are
P0301
P0302
P0303
P0304
P1300
From what I understand these are cylinders misfiring. I don't know what to do to try to find and fix. No clue where to start.

Best would be to get yourself a Chilton's manual, follow the troubleshooting steps in there. People sell them used all the time on CL or try Amazon. There are also tons of diagnostic and repair videos and write ups online, all you have to do is search.

Misfire could be from any number of things.
