Currently drive a 2000 Honda Civic EX coupe and a shifting problem arose while driving it. During the drive I notice that from 4th gear and transitioning to 5th that the shifter would not want to slide into 5th “naturally” As if there’s a wall blocking it. So I tried going from neutral to 5th gear and it turns out to work fine. I even tried going through gear during idle and sometimes the wall will exist and other times it shifts naturally.

Suggestions, recommendation? Haven’t dove in to take a look but just want to hear some inputs out there.

 

Fifth gear has it's own shift fork so it would make sense that it's the only gear with an issue. Probably not what you want to hear but like most transmission problems you really have to take it apart and see what's going on. The alternative would be to just live with it. Have you tried to rev match when you shift to 5th?

 

 

drove it yesterday afternoon and shifting to fifth gear turned out to be fine. I’m guessing I wasn’t hitting its sweet spot coming from fourth. I happen to have the problem after not driving it for a week, but I will definitely check out the internals once I obtain a input shaft bearing.
