92-95 eg hatch exhaust problems
I need someone to shed some light on this topic. I bought a b-series PLM 4-2-1 one piece headers.. and installed them when trying to put my exhaust pipe back on I noticed that it did not pair well with my exhaust pipe. The bolt hole did not line up and the resonator is to small to be able to put them together.. so I figure let’s try and buy a bigger resonator so it could rap around the header pipe. While searching I could not find anything bigger then 3in for my eg civic.. then I went to forums to see if there was a place where I could buy a resonator or exhaust system made for the PLM headers and my car.. but no luck, all I got was a dude telling me that PLM headers are not meant to fit perfectly with any exhaust system and that I had to modify my flanges and hangers to use this header... which Is a big bummer.. all I wanted to do was slap it on.. and not have to go through all this extra work.. which will cost me. The headers it self was 400$ I just need to know if modifying my exhaust pipe is the only way.. “PLM is big bummer”
First, this post should be part of your original header post... there is no reason to make another thread just because you don't like the answers that were offered in your original post.
Now, regardless of what people say here about your header, MOST headers will not bolt up directly to your exhaust because "B" series headers will fit many different applications and chassis... and the orientation of the flanges and the length of the mid-pipe vary from chassis to chassis. With that said, a simple flange kit will solve your problem. These do require welding, so you would simply take the flange kit to your local muffler shop and have it welded on to your original cat-back and bolt up to your new header and you are done. IF you can still find one on Ebay or Amazon, PLM used to make a slip fit replacement resonator/test pipe that will bolt to your cat-back and slide and rotate to mate to the header... no welding is required. So your problem isn't that you bought a "cheap" header... it is that you bought a "Universal" header and they require a bit of massaging to properly install it.
