Hello guyz,
I spent a whole week reading about BAXA, MAXA, MCJA transmissions. I could not find a MAXA trans but I saw an ad from a local JDM importer here so I went to the shop to buy a trans.
He showed me an MGPA trans that was bolted on an Hseries vtec motor.
The trans he said I needed was the MCJA trans. The one he showed me was bolted to a motor identical to mine (an F23)
He suggested I buy this trans over the MCJA because the gear ratios/final drive are same as my car, while the MCJA had shorter FD and had shorter gears.
So I bought the MGPA trans ($300) but now I cannot find much information online for this trans to replace my BAXA unit.
Anyone knows anything about the MGPA trans?
Thanks

AFAIK the trans codes are as follows;
BAXA is US built Accord
MAXA is Japan built Accord(CF8/CG5)
M6HA is Prelude(North America)
MCJA is Accord JDM(CF3/4)
MDWA is Odyssey(North America)
MPGA is Odyssey(International)

Just to clarify.
These transmissions are physically interchangeable.
Three things you need to watch out for are;
These transmissions are physically interchangeable.
Three things you need to watch out for are;
- Verify the drive plate(flexplate) matches the torque converter, if it is different from your current one. Most good importers(if you go that route) will supply the driveplate with the transmission.
- Most of the JDM imported sensors will not physically connect to your current harness, which means you get to reuse or purchase new ones for your 'new' trans. Sucks, but that's what they do.
- Gear ratios. Sticker on the trans indicates the gear ratios. I would not be surprised if JDM or other non-North American Preludes shared the gear ratios with the later 2.3 Ody(international). In the U.S.A. we have E.P.A./C.A.F.E. regulations to deal with. So the NA Prelude may get its own special gearing.

Will let you guys lnow how well it works.
I recently had a customer bring me a 2000 Accord with a blown transmission and an MCJA unit they purchased from an importer. Can confirm that you will have to use all the sensors off your old transmission. I had to swap the transmission cooler pipes as well.
Depending on the gear ratios in your new transmission, your speedometer may be off slightly after the swap.

- Different engines have different torque curves which require different TC sizes. In turn this requires a different driveplate diameter to match the TC.
- Common knowledge/experience. Probably not really a Japanese thing, more like something to do with 'grey market' and protecting 'markets' from 'flooding' and other dated economical ideas in this day in the age of the 'internets', Amazon Prime... and ****.
- Sticker on the trans is to indicate trans ID. FSMs will also list the code of a given transmission for a given engine. Look up the FSM's for the 92-96 Prelude, there are several supplemental's due to the different engines/transmission combos. F22/H23/H22
